Dear colleagues!

The Institute of Foreign Policy Studies together with the Centre for Strategic Studies, with the support of the Directorate General for Services to Foreign Missions, invite you to take part in the roundtable discussion for foreign diplomatic missions, leading Ukrainian media and experts on the topic: ‘Europe's Eastern Shield without NATO, the United States and Ukraine: Possible Models of European Security’, which will be held on 28 March 2025, from 11:00 to 13:10, in the Media Centre of the Directorate General for Services to Foreign Missions at 6-a Pirogova Street.

The following issues will be discussed during the roundtable:

1. Learning the lessons of the First and Second World Wars to avoid the Third.

2. The current geopolitical context of changes in Central and Eastern Europe: ‘goodbye NATO’ and what to replace it?

3. What future awaits the EU alone with the Russian and Chinese threats;

4. Europe facing the challenge of the Russian-American tandem: back to Yalta-2?

5. Future models of European security in the context of a radical change in the world order:

- Creation of a European Army instead of NATO;

- European Defence Union with Ukraine outside its borders in a buffer or grey zone in neutral and nuclear status;

- creation of an ‘EU Eastern Shield’ instead of NATO without Ukraine's participation;

- formation of a Baltic-Black Sea British-Ukrainian alliance.
